Fights for Friends (Can you say Ike?)
Calvin was a simple sellsword in the realm of Wygyllhaur; young and roguish, people were always skeptical of his abilities but he always proved to deliver on what he promised, and then more. He built a reputation for himself and soon received a contract from a mysterious group; they seemed as though they were shady and had ill motivations, but it was of little consequence to him as long as he was paid. He was to seek a magic pillar and leave their amulet there.
It seemed simple enough, and he set out immediately. His search led him deep into a mountain range. He found the pillar and moved to place the amulet at its base, when suddenly there was an earthquake followed by a rockslide. He managed to escape it unscathed, but the amulet was shattered in the process. Calvin picked up the amulet and his hand was wrapped in a black substance that began to move up his arm. He tried to shake it off but it would not stop. Finally he used his sword to pry the amulet from his hand, stopping the black substance from moving any further; it had reached up to his right shoulder. He peeled the substance off and underneath it he found that his arm had been transformed into a crystalline structure.
Calvin went back to his clients and told them what had happened. They were dissatisfied that he had failed his mission, and took his best friend's life as punishment. He lashed out on them but was quickly subdued and cast out. He never saw them again. It wasn't until a few months later, while he was researching the pillar at a library, that he learned of their wish-granting ability. Calvin went back to the pillar, bringing his friend Gunner with him, to wish for his best friend's life to be returned.
During his journey he discovered his ability to create crystalline constructs using his right arm; Gunner researched this ability thoroughly and found a way to harness the energy within the crystals to create weaponry, which they quickly began developing.
